This article is for small businesses who use Xero. Change your current backup method , go to your account settings. If you don't have a smartphone or tablet, you can install an authenticator app on a laptop or desktop computer. Ask our community of customers, accountants and bookkeepers. Skip to main content Search icon Search Xero Central. Install an authenticator app. To reset MFA, first you have to turn it off. Log in to Xero using a web browser. Click your initials or profile image, then select Account.

Under Additional Security , click the menu icon next to Multi-factor authentication. Click Turn off multi-factor authentication. Enter the code from your authenticator app, then click Disable. Your MFA has now been turned off. Next to Multi-factor authentication, click Set up. Click Set up multi-factor authentication. Choose an authenticator app. To use push notifications, select Xero Verify. Follow the steps in Xero to add your Xero account to the app.

Add a backup email address, then click Continue. Your answers can only contain letters or numbers, and not any symbols or special characters. They also need to be five or more characters. Your MFA is now reset. What's next? You're all set to keep authenticating when you log in to Xero.
